Can I draw country outlines on a map?

Add format=geojson for a simplified country land outline, with the country code as its feature ID and the same selected facts in properties. Use countries on the GeoJSON collection to select up to 50 codes. Missing outlines keep null geometry.

Can I use an ISO code or a country name?

Yes. Use a two-letter ISO2 code, a three-letter ISO3 code or a supported country name. US, USA and United States resolve to the same record. Name matching is case-insensitive and accepts supported local names.

How do I build country and state dropdowns?

GET /country returns the country list with codes, names, flags and calling codes. After a country is selected, GET /country/{code}/states returns its recorded subdivisions with codes, names and types. Both lists are available on every plan.

What is included with a free API key?

Country lookup, the country list and state lists use your API request allowance on every plan. The ordinary lookup includes country names and codes, demonym, region, currency, calling code, flag, language codes, timezone IDs, borders, memberships and capital. Deep country profiles are included on paid plans.

What does Deep add?

Add ?deep=true to the same country lookup on a paid plan for population, area, economic statistics, physical geography, local conventions, postal formats, tax references and specialist identifiers. Capital, borders and country-group memberships are already in Core. Core fields keep the same values. Unavailable detail stays null. A Free request with Deep returns an empty deep object.

Is name_local a translated label?

name is the English display name. name_local is the country's own name, such as Japan and 日本. It is null when absent or identical to name. It does not change with the visitor's language.

Which timezone should I use for a person or address?

Country returns a list of IANA timezone IDs associated with the country. Use a more specific place or coordinate to choose the timezone for an address. The Time API resolves local time and conversions for supported locations.

How should I read statistics and geography?

Population and geographic fields are reference facts with separate coverage. Area is in square kilometers, coastline in kilometers and elevations in meters. Geographic detail includes archived observations. Missing values stay null.

Can I calculate checkout tax from tax.rate?

deep.tax.rate is the standard national reference rate in percent, so 19 means 19%. It is not a transaction-specific tax calculation. Product, location and exemption rules can change the amount due. The US has a null national rate because it has no national sales tax.
