Read what belongs.
A coffee shop and a mobile coffee van can fall under different codes. Definitions explain the activity. Exclusions point to activities classified elsewhere, with linked codes where the classification gives one.
Follow the immediate parent to see the broader group. Deep also lists immediate children so you can move toward a more specific industry.

- Combined sectors stay combined
- Manufacturing is 31-33, Retail Trade is 44-45, and Transportation and Warehousing is 48-49.
- Keep country and year
- The response identifies the classification country and revision. Save them with the code so reports use the same edition.

Does search assign a code to a business?
Search finds candidate industries by title, business activity or code. The match field shows the text that matched and any spelling correction. Ranking describes text relevance. Compare the definition with the business's primary activity before choosing a code.
Which country and revision are covered?
United States NAICS 2022, from two-digit sectors to six-digit national industries. Combined sectors use 31-33, 44-45 and 48-49. Save country and year with the code to keep the classification edition clear.
What does Deep add?
On paid plans, add deep=true to the same lookup or search for definitions, immediate children and classification exclusions. Core fields stay the same. Free requests with deep=true return an empty deep object.
What happens when there is no match?
A search with no matches returns an empty results array. An unknown code returns 404. Malformed input returns 400. Sectors have null parent fields, and six-digit industries have an empty children array in Deep.
How are requests counted?
Each lookup or search uses one API request from your monthly allowance. Industry shares that allowance with other ParseAPI products. Deep is included on paid plans with no separate charge.
