- What does a planting zone tell me?
- A USDA hardiness zone describes the average annual extreme minimum winter temperature. The 2023 edition uses 1991-2020 observations. It helps you compare the cold hardiness of perennial plants; it does not predict the next freeze or tell you when to sow seeds.
- Which ZIP codes are covered?
- The official listings contain 40,502 ZIP records across the contiguous United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. An unlisted ZIP returns no result. We do not estimate a zone from nearby ZIPs.
- Can a nursery use this on a plant page?
- Yes. Open the embed settings and enter both the minimum and maximum half-zones printed for the plant, such as 5a and 9b. Visitors see whether their ZIP zone is inside that listed range. Sunlight, soil, moisture, and local conditions still matter.
- Where does the data come from?
- The 2023 USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map ZIP listings published by Oregon State University PRISM. Zone values are reproduced unchanged. This tool displays a ZIP reference value rather than a parcel-level map.
- How do I install the widget?
- Create a free publisher account, register your site, and copy the embed code. Your visitors do not need accounts. Set the plant range separately for each product page or leave it empty for a general zone finder.
