FREE TOOL
Business days calculator
Count working days between two dates. Skip weekends and, optionally, UK bank holidays.
Free, no signup. Monday to Friday, with both dates included by default.
THE CALENDAR UNDERNEATH
Weekday counts run in your browser. Holiday exclusions use our Holiday API, with bank holiday dates published by GOV.UK. England and Wales share a calendar; Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own.
Building a schedule? The Holiday API returns the dates and regions. The Date API parses dates and measures calendar-day distance. This tool combines a weekday count with the selected holiday calendar.
QUESTIONS
- How are business days calculated?
- The calculator counts Monday through Friday between your dates. Saturday and Sunday are always excluded. Weekdays only leaves all weekday holidays in the count. Select a supported bank holiday calendar to subtract those days too.
- Does the count include the start and end date?
- Both are included by default. Uncheck either date to exclude it. An included date only counts as a business day if it is a weekday and is not excluded by your selected calendar. The same start and end date counts at most once.
- Which holiday calendars are supported?
- England and Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, using official GOV.UK bank holiday dates through the Holiday API. Nationwide holidays and the selected region are included. Employer leave, local closures, and cultural observances are not. The Weekdays only option can be used anywhere, but does not remove holidays.
- What happens to observed holidays?
- The calendar uses the published substitute date as supplied by GOV.UK. It does not invent replacement days. Two holiday names on one date remove one day, and a holiday already on a weekend is not subtracted twice.
- Can I calculate future years?
- You can select a range within five calendar years. Holiday calendars only cover years already published by the source. If any required calendar is unavailable, the tool shows an error instead of a partial holiday-adjusted count. You can switch to Weekdays only to count without holidays.
- Will daylight saving time change the result?
- No. The calculation uses calendar dates, not elapsed hours. Leap days are counted normally, and a clock change does not add or remove a date.
